Plastic Blade Guard Sticks And Does Not Rise Smoothly.

How do I fix the plastic guard not rising easily without unsafely pushing down to hard on the tool. Our students struggle to use the saw safely as the pressure to operate is far to much.

The plastic guard on the Makita LS1016 circular saw is designed to help prevent injuries by protecting the user from the blade. However, if the guard is difficult to raise, it can be a safety hazard. Here are a few things you can do to fix the plastic guard so that it rises easily:

Check the spring. The spring is what helps to raise the guard. If the spring is weak or broken, it will be difficult to raise the guard. To check the spring, remove the guard and look for any signs of damage. If the spring is damaged, you will need to replace it.

Lubricate the pivot points. The guard is attached to the saw by a few pivot points. These pivot points can become stiff over time, making it difficult to raise the guard. To lubricate the pivot points, use a light oil or grease.

Adjust the tension. There is a tension screw on the guard. This screw controls how much tension is applied to the spring. If the tension is too high, it will be difficult to raise the guard. To adjust the tension, loosen the screw and then tighten it until the guard raises easily.

If you have tried all of the above and the guard is still difficult to raise, you may need to take the saw to a qualified technician for further assistance.

Here are some additional safety tips to keep in mind when using a circular saw:

Always wear safety glasses and gloves when using a circular saw.

Make sure that the saw is properly grounded.

Never use the saw if the guard is damaged or missing.

Keep your fingers away from the blade at all times.

Be aware of your surroundings and make sure that there are no obstacles in the way when you are using the saw.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

no worries - I've got you covered. If that plastic blade guard isn't lifting smoothly, there might be a couple of things causing the issue. First, check for any debris or dirt that might be jamming it up. Give it a good clean, and that might do the trick.

If it's not that, take a look at the hinges or the mechanism that makes it rise. Sometimes they can get a bit stiff over time. Try lubricating the hinges or the moving parts with some oil - that could make things work smoothly again.

And hey, if all else fails, it might be a good idea to get in touch with the manufacturer or check the manual for some troubleshooting tips. You've got this - a little bit of tinkering and that blade guard will be back in action.
