Light Bulb Getting Too Hot On Motor Unit

I use regular 100W bulbs, but they burn out quickly and I noticed that they are getting too hot and the plastic around them is bubbling a little like melting. There is a piece of silver tape or patch that is right near the bulb that seems to act as a reflector. Does that need to be removed? Is that making it too hot? Thanks

I advise against removing the deflector. Since it is 100w max you might want to drop down a little on the wattage (60 or 75) to get a little of the heat reduced.

WARNING: To prevent possible OVERHEATING of the endpanel or

light socket:

• DO NOT use short neck or specialty light bulbs.

• DO NOT use halogen bulbs. Use ONLY incandescent.

To prevent damage to the opener:

• DO NOT use bulbs larger than 100W.

• ONLY use A19 size bulbs.

I hope this is helpful to you!
