Print Head Removal Lexmark Optra S 1250

I keep getting an error code 931 after the printer starts up and makes a loud grinding noise. It has been idle for a long period and I suspect cleaning might be a solution.

If it has not been used for a while then I would definately give it a clean, dust & other particles will have built up. The grinding sound may indicate the motor needs cleaning. You should be able to disassemble, clean and lubricate the polygon motor if your technically minded. But I would check the cleaning wand first it may just need to be replaced which is easily done. These errors usually indicate a failure in the HYSNC signal to the
printhead. Check the continuity of the cables connected to J3 and J8
on the engine board. If incorrect, replace the defective cable. The
voltage at J8-4 measures approximately +5 V dc. If incorrect,
replace the engine board. The voltage at J3-7 measures approximately +24 V dc. If incorrect, replace the engine board. If correct, replace the printhead assembly.
