Printing Black And White
Will it require all four colors to print black and white document for lexmark s400 series

Yes, the printer needs all cartridges with sufficient ink levels for it to be able to print. It was designed that way to prevent damaging the printhead. Every time a cartridge is replaced, all colors are primed simultaneously thus the need for all cartridges to have ink.
