Why Is The Timer Designed So Stupidly?

I would have asked the question differently but couldn't do so in 80 characters. The oven is automatically turned off when the timer goes off. This is the stupidest design idea I can think of. There are virtually no situations where this is useful to me. I actually cook. I don't just heat up frozen pizzas. It means I can't use the timer which is stupid. I need multiple timers when I am cooking for multiple dishes so to have this one unusable is really annoying. Is there a way to reprogram it so the timer indicates that the set time has elapsed but the oven stays on?
