It is possible that the filter was not fitted correctly, but there are several other possibilities. See http://www.repairclinic.com/RepairHelp/How-To-Fix-A-Refrigerator/53-121--S0ZYUzI1UllNUw==/KitchenAid-Refrigerator-ice-maker-not-working. (Ignore the paragraph in red relating to a partial model number.)

Hi. It must be that the filter was not fitted correctly. Or any other component of the Icemaker. The Use & Care Guide here http://www.helpowl.com/manuals/KitchenAid/KFXS25RYMS/112070 should be of great help.
