2008 Jeep Commander 3.7 V6 Running Rough

My 2008 Jeep commander 3.7 v6 is running rough in idle and not so great in regular speed, engine light stays on then blinks, then stays on again the whole time I'm driving. Someone told me it could be my fuel filter, but I have no clue if it is the fuel filter, where it's located at. Help!! Single mom with three kids, stuck at work.
