Will The Pcb For The 40 Gb Work In The 27.3 Gb Deskstar?

Highly unlikely. A 40gb disk drive if that is what you are refering to will only have the ability to recognise 40gb and normally only the original drive it was fitted to as the bad sector table and other information is burnt into an eprom at manufacture. Just don't go there.
