The likely problem is the drive belts. Depending on how much usage the unit gets dictate the wear. Check the various belts and if necessary replace them. The user manual available here:

explains from page 18 onwards the procedure. A worn belt will slip and so when going into a lower gear will not drive the unit very well but slip due to increased torque.
