Hotmail, Canceled Alternate Email Address Not Removed

I have an Alternate Email Address in Hotmail that has been cancelled. I would like to remove it but it will not complete the task because the Confirm email is being sent to the cancelled address. Also, when I try to Add a new Alternate Email Address the Confirm email is being sent to the cancelled address. How do I fix this?
