How Do I Connect The Hose To The Connection Port? Is There Suppose To Be A Latch

I just have a hose end and then the connnetion port on the unit.  Is there suppose to be some sort of latch to hold it in place?

It looks to me like you need to latch the hose in place on the top of the front of the vacuum and use the extension to plug the port on the side.  But, I think looking at the guide will help you a lot more!
