Hitachi Tv 2 Year Old Sound Stops Working Times 42'

Hi there, and welcome to Helpowl, I look forward to assisting you today with your question and providing the best answer possible.
Ok, first we need to make sure everything is securely connected. Double check the connections on the back of the cable box and also on the TV. Sometimes this is just a loose cable.
Also, make sure the simple things are taken care of... volume level, mute, TV speakers on/off if you have that option in the menu.
If all that has been covered, reboot the cable box by disconnecting its power cord for at least 5 minutes. That usually fixes this. If that doesn't help, ring the cable company and have them send a manual reboot to the box.
OR
I spent hours and hours and hours going through all settings to no avail. I was about to send the TV back, when I went through in my head what had happened from DVD giving sound to it not.
I remembered that because I had Sky I never bothered utilising the auto tune function of the TV and everything I plugged in worked, including the DVD. Shortly after this I done a complete auto setup of the TV for digital and analogue, which is obviously where it lost the sound (I never linked this because of alcohol induced dementia). To resolve my issue I redone the setup with the DVD player on and a film playing and hey presto I have sound. To confirm this I redone the auto-setup with the DVD off and again I lost the sound, so it seems to me - Don't run auto-setup without the DVD drive on and running!!
PS. I couldn't find a factory reset far short of removing the back a reseting the NVRAM, if indeed it has any. I am sure there will be a method using the comms ports at the back. Also, just as a note, the setup choices you get are different when you are in an AV or HDMI channel than in a standard channel. Use the standard channel for the auto setup (I think it is called "new installation").
