How Often Does One Replace The Fuser (under The Top Cover)?

Our printer leaves "black tracks"on printed items long before the cartidges need to be replaced (with about 70% life remaining). After replacing the black cartidge with a new one, the tracks go away, but after a couple months of use they come back. This is very expensive to maintain. We do not feed printed material into the printer. Perhaps something else needs to be replaced rather than the cartridge? These tracks go from top to bottom of the page, usually on either the right or left side, but sometimes down the middle. The printer is regularly cleaned. Any suggestions you have will be appreciate. The unit is more than likely out of warranty as it was purchased in 2008. Nancy
