Ink Carriage Jammed To The Right

The ink carriage is totally jammed to the right - can't get it to release (there is a protective 'cover' that looks like it should be easy to remove to access the cartridge, but it isn't.  Is there a hidden release switch that HP doesn't want us peons to know about??? Thanks, Glen
