The HP EliteBook 8540w is designed to support an optional secondary battery that can be installed in the media bay or optical drive bay of the laptop. Here are the steps to install a second battery:
- Shut down your laptop and unplug it from the power source.
- Remove the primary battery by sliding the battery release latch to the unlock position and pulling the battery out of the laptop.
- Locate the media bay or optical drive bay on your laptop. It is usually located on the side or front of the laptop.
- Insert the battery into the media bay or optical drive bay, making sure it is securely in place.
- Connect the battery cable to the laptop's battery connector.
- Turn on your laptop and check the battery status to ensure that the second battery is being recognized by the system. You can do this by going to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
- Set the power management options to optimize the use of both batteries.
Note: The battery life of the laptop will depend on the usage and age of the batteries. It is recommended to use both batteries together to maximize battery life.
