1
Disconnect any cables and external devices that are connected to your HP Elitebook. Lift up the notebook and place it upside down on a stable surface with the flat surface of the notebook closest to you. The battery is located along the lower edge of the notebook.
2
Push the battery-release latch above the the middle of the battery to the right to disengage the battery from the notebook. Lift and remove the battery.
3
Push the access slide cover release latch above the left side of the battery bay. Rotate the laptop 180 degrees, then pull the access cover toward you until it slides completely off the laptop. Rotate the laptop 180 degrees again.
4
Remove the screw directly above the battery-release latch using the Phillips-head screwdriver.
5
Slide the Phillips-head screwdriver into the small square hole directly above the screw you just removed and angle the screwdriver to the left. The optical drive slides out of its bay on the back-right edge of the laptop. Carefully pull the optical drive out of the laptop. Remove the screwdriver, then remove the screw directly above the hole you just removed the screwdriver from.
6
Remove the screw directly above the access cover release latch along the middle-left edge of the computer.
7
Lift the computer up and set it on one of its flat edges. Open the display at least 5 inches.
8
Insert the screwdriver into the small hole directly above the battery-release latch and push slightly to force the back part of the keyboard up.
9
Lift the laptop up and place it right-side up, with the front of the laptop closest to you, then open the display.
10
Lift the back part of the keyboard and slide it back 1 inch toward the display. Lift the keyboard and place it, keys down, on the mouse touch pad.
11
Spread the retaining clips on the edges of the connector that holds the ribbon cables that extend from the keyboard to the laptop. Carefully pull both the large and the small ribbon cables out of the laptop to completely unlock the keyboard.
12
Lift and remove the HP Elitebook keyboard.
