In Response To Current Answers.
In response to current answers.akanetuk provided a pdf that did not relate to my printer. TechSupport101 provided a link to the hp website which did not address my issue.I know how to align the cartridges. What I need to know is how to set them to prime so that the black ink cartridge will print properly as it is currently leaving open spaces where it should be printing black.

Hi! You can manually prime the cartridge. First of all, get a damp cloth or paper towel. The damp part is important; otherwise the priming will not have a single chance of working. Once you have that damp cloth or towel, press the towel against the print head and hold it there for about half a minute. The dampness draws the ink to it and therefore brings the ink towards the surface of the print head. You can then run it through the cleaning utility again in order to make sure that everything is fine before going ahead with your print job.
