Intermittent Starting Of Super Ii Pool Motor

Have a Hayward Super II 1.0 HP pool motor about 15 yars old. Sometimes it does not start - it will hum a bit and then nothing. Other times, it will start right up. The impeller rotates easily. I suspect the Start capacitor. Am I on the right track?

I think you are. I have a spa with two Haywood pumps and had the same symptons with one, replaced the starting capacitor and it works now. BTW on my spa at least you can replace the starting capacitor without removing the pump
