The Hole?

I cannot figure out why the hole is on the lid. Can someone please inform me? I'm thinking for venting??

Yes,is for venting,as of precaution the designers put the vent right on top. For the reason of equalizing the discharge of steam been generated by it. On the side, a build could occur and lid become airborne and consequently injure some one.
