Why Does Ge Make Such A Cheep Door Handle For Their Built In Microwaves?

My guess is you know the answer but would like to express your dissatisfaction.

The answer of course is that manufacturers make such decisions on the basis of profit and the market. A manufacturer will spend more money on a component if it deems that the additional money spent would bring a return in dollars sufficient to justify it. That's inherent in our capitalist ("free enterprise") system.
