Used Microwave For First Time. Smelled Like Smoke Within 5 Seconds.

tHERE IS A PIECE THAT LOOKS LIKE CARDBOARD ON THE FAR RIGHT INSIDE. IS THIS PIECE NESSARY OR IS IT PACKING MATERIAL THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REMOVED?
