Common Reasons Your AC Fuses Keep Blowing
  1. Problems with your fuse box, your circuit, and/or your central power supply. The most logical cause of your air conditioner tripping a breaker or blowing a fuse when it comes on stems from a problem with the electrical connection, the power supply, or the circuit that powers the system. Breakers and fuses are designed to trip or blow when too much voltage is sent through the line. Simply inserting a larger fuse is a recipe for disaster. You need to have a technician get to the root of the problem to prevent any electrical overloads.
  2. An issue with your air cooling system's capacitor. The capacitor is a part of the cooling system's condenser. This small part helps to even out and regulate the electrical current as it flows through the condenser. A problem with this easy-to-replace part is another reason for blown AC fuses.
  3. Extreme temperatures and a dirty filter.A third possibility is that high demand (i.e. high temperatures) is forcing your system to work harder to push conditioned air through a dirt-clogged filter, which in turn is putting extra pressure on the system and blowing the fuse. Occasionally, a dirty condenser coil can have a similar effect. It's best to have your system cleaned thoroughly at the beginning of the warm weather season to avoid any such problems.
