Garmin Echo 151dv Won't Start Up

I have my fish finder wired directly to a 12 volt battery using #14 wire. I have current to the unit. I have tried both my boat battery (12v) and my truck battery (12v). It does not start up with either battery. I know the Garmin is good because I had it checked before I left the store. It is on a trailer in car port if that makes any difference.
