Depth Sounder Not Working

I have a garmin 178C and the depth sounder works fine at slow speeds but as soon as I pick up the speed to get on plane it goes blank.  It will come back as soon as I slow down.  Is my thansducer shot?  I'm not sure if the the fish sounder is working.
