Hello! The unit needs to be properly cleaned to include the filter and the outside of the unit that is on the exterior of the house. Please ensure that the unit is unplugged when you are cleaning and when you insert the filter for use again. The filter can be taken out of the front of the unit by opening the front panel. If you still hear a hum it could be the fan rotating. As long as the appliance is still functioning properly, you can expect most air conditioners to make a slight noise.

Hope this helps!
