just pruchases gas dryer, gas is on, drum turns no heat

Did you install the unit yourself? I would just make sure the gas connections are hooked up correctly, and tightly. If you don't smell gas, that is a good thing, but make sure the gas connection is turned on. If you begin to smell gas, immediately turn it off and contact a service professional.
