Trac control is one of the worst features on the Crown Vic and the Mercury Grand Marquis. It is supposed to be a safety feature to keep your car from losing traction in the rain or snow, but it actually makes the handling of the vehicle worse in the rain or snow.

Your trac control is probably defective and that's why the light is on and it's driving poorly. You should be able to disengage this feature by pressing a button in the glove box. There should be a button marked "trac off" on the left hand side of the glove box. Open the glove box door and look for it outside of the box. Pressing that button should turn off the trac control and solve your problem (hopefully).
