How Do I Make Myself Available To Chat

I'm having trouble making myself available to chat on fb. I was instructed to click on chat icon in lower right bottom, then options, and then click the "online" option. There is no "online" option. My options are-go offline, pop off chat, play sound for new messages, keep online friends window open, and show only names in online friends. I'm relatively new to fb and the computer. Any help will be greatlly appreciated.

Sounds like You may not have the latest version of Java. Try downloading an update and it may work.
