Electrolux Microwave Clock Is Backlit! Ei30mh55gsa

The service provider replaced the clock, but the entire block, not just the digits, is backlit. It looks like there is a light illuminating the block, instead of the digits displaying with a black background. The service rep said that's how them come. He is wrong. It wasn't that was before the malfunction and our neighbor was the same model, without a  backlit block where digits have a black background. Obviously, some electronic problem exists. Please help!
