I Want To Connect My Ipod To My Denon Avr-1905 Receiver.

I tried using an RCA cable - connected via the headphone jack on the ipod and used the v-aux inputs on the front of the denon. I could get a little static from the speakers, but no music. I switched the input for the receiver to v-aux. Do I need a special cable?
