Power Save Mode
I powered down my Dell Studio xps and Dell ST2410 monitor for some carpet installation. I have reconnected the computer and monitor, but the monitor goes black after saying it is entering power save mode. An icon showing the cable connection appears.

It seems you are far from being the only person to run into "Power saving mode" issues with your monitor model. There are a number of problems that could be the cause. But, I did find an extremely promising solution article that describes at least a major portion of your issue.
I also found that if you're attempting a HDMI connection then that could certainly be the culprit.
But, like I said, it seems Dell monitors are notorious.
