Console Terminal Connection
The switch provides an RS-232 serial port that enables a connection to a PC or terminal for monitoring and configuring the switch. This port is a male DB-9 connector, implemented as a data terminal equipment (DTE) connection.
To use the console port, you need the following equipment:
- A VT-100 or VT100-compatible terminal program on a PC or portable system with a serial port (ex: Windows Console Terminal).
- A null modem or crossover RS-232 cable with a female DB-9 connector for the console port on the switch.
Once a valid IP address has been configured via serial connection, a web browser can be used through a network connection. Open a browser window and type http://[switch ip address] in the address bar and press [enter].
Example:
Console# configure
Console(config)# interface vlan 1
Console(config-if)# ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0
Console(config-if)# exit
A valid access profile MUST be assigned in order to login via a remote web interface..
Connect to the switch using a Web Browser. At the web login dialog box, enter the user name and password assined to the switch for the Privileged Exec level.
