Dell Inspiron N7010 Operation With The Lid Closed

I know I can operate my Dell Inspiron N7010 with an external monitor and/or an external keyboard as long as I keep the screen/lid/cover open after turning on the laptop. Is there any way, after powering on the laptop, that I can close the lid without putting the laptop to sleep, operating only off the external monitor and keyboard?
