Help! My Laptop Will Not Turn On! Will I Loose Everything?!

Dell Model:Inspiron Q15R Model No:5110 -6503 Service Tag:7663CR1 My laptop's screen turned black then turned to blue and told me that it had detected a problem and before I got a chance to read the notice further it went off.. I'm not 100% sure if I turned it off myself or it turned off on it's own. Before it went black and wouldn't turn on it had multi coloured scattered dots in the top left coner of the screen & then went black, no beeps went off at  any time. I have taken the battery out a couple of times & put it back in after trying to turn it back on, when the power button light was off then the light came back on but nothing else happened, not start up screen, no noise from the fan, just silence and black. The tiny battery symbol has now turned red will turn red then flash red then stop but stay red. The power button light is still on. The light won't go out when I press the power button down to try and turn it on, nothing is happening..I'm freaking out here, I don't know what to do, I've googled it and all sites say different things or the same thing but I'm not sure what exactly applies to me. But I thinking that I'll loose everything, I'm not confident to try anything myself. Is there a time period for dealing with this? Please help, I've tried to give as much information as possible.

Hi,

We can try a few steps which may fix the issue:

I would recommend you to remove the power cable, battery and any external devices connected to the system. Hold the power button down for 15-20 seconds and then put the battery and the adapter back in and start the computer. Check if it works.

Have you tried connecting a different good known AC Adapter to the system?

Would recommend to run Pre-boot system assessment test to check the LCD functionality. To run the test, hold down the FN key and press the power button which will initiate the test. In case you are able to see the test running on the screen, it means it’s not an issue with the LCD. Color bars on the screen indicate functional LCD.

However, if the screen is dark, then wait for a few minutes, you should hear beep sounds from the computer. It could be an issue with the LCD or the inverter cable.

You can refer the Dell Article 266787 on www.support.dell.com

If the external monitor display is fine, then the issue could be with the LCD.

You can try reseating the LCD cable. If reseating the LCD cable also doesn’t resolve then would suggest you to replace the LCD.

The data is stored in the hard drive. So please let me know if you are getting any error messages or beep codes.

You can also refer to the link for No Display issue:

You can refer the Dell Article 266826 on www.support.dell.com

Please respond for any further assistance

Thanks & Regards
