E310dw Printer

Brand new, just unpacked from the box. We can't figure out how to install the printer cartridge. It looks as though it should fit into the drum but that the drum should be removed first to make this easier. Is there something we need to do first? Is the drum locked in place? We are stuck by something that seems simple. Thanks for any help.
