1. The vibe pump works just fine (put an alternative water source into the pump and then got water in the brew and hot water cycles).

2. Tested and found that no water or air could go thru the plastic gizmo between the water tank and the pump.

3. Took the "gizmo" off, and tried blowing compressed air through it. That freed what sounded like vanes in the gizmo, at least I could hear them spinning, and from that point onwards I could blow thru the unit.

Put it all back together and things seem to be working fine again.

So in conclusion, it seems that this plastic gizmo in the water line before the pump is a flow meter, which uses a vaned water wheel as a measuring device. And I am guessing that some particle got stuck in there keeping the vanes from turning.

So far, blowing thru the flow meter did not seem to damage it in any way, but there is no telling for the future. I am curious if anyone is familiar with these flow meters and where to get replacements. Might be prudent to have one on hand. Unfortunately Cuisinart does not sell parts, and I could not see any markings on the meter itself. For reference, this one is about 1.5" square, white plastic, in hindsite it is molded to contain a water wheel, and has 3 wires coming out of it.
