Many mower models are made in more than one year.  You can find out what year your engine was manufactured by looking for the code stamped onto the engine (for Briggs & Stratton engines).  You'll see the engine model, type, and trim, and then a long code number.  The first 2 digits of the code are the year, then the month, then the day.  (You may have to remove the engine shroud to see this information.)
