Coby Mp-705 Battery

Coby MP705 with usb power supply get battery charging indicator on screen; but unit will not function on battery, Also never shows full charge. Constantly shows same 0 to full battery on screen while usb is connected. Is the battery defective or is there some setting on the unit ??Thank you and have a Great day
