As others commented the magnet is superfluous in general. It might help if your car body is plastic. But before you start drilling into your car consider having an NMO mount professionally installed. NMO stands for "New MOtorola" and is the standard for permanent vehicle mounted antennas. Now, NMO is it's own standard but you can get adapters for standard UHF (PL259), BNA, SMA, N and others. If you go to a store that sells commercial mobile radio gear (i.e. that services business radio users or emergency services) they can install the mount in the center of the roof and run the coax to an SO239 socket mounted in a place of your choice inside the vehicle with the coax totally out of sight . If you are driving an old VW Bus, by all means do it yourself. You can buy the NMO + 17' of Coax + PL259 for about $15. If you want your Lexus or Ram Ecodiesel to look nice (and not leak), check out the cost. You may want to pay the pros to do it for you neat and tidy.
I have a 2m/70cm antenna on the roof of my CRV. I unscrewed it from the mag-mount and bought a PL259 to NMO adapter. Less than $10 on Amazon. This makes it easy to change antennas. Also the mag mount stopped messing up my roof paint. Park at a campsite, unscrew the antenna, and run a Coax from the roof of your vehicle to a wire antenna pitched over a tree limb. Work the world from inside your car. But first, dump the CB and get a ham license.
