Noticed A $39.00 Charge On My Bank Statement Online. What Is This For?

I have not used the Classmates site for 8 years. Went on a few months ago just to post a reunion. Have not done anything since. I did not authorize any deduction from my bank account. Please remove. Thank you.

The previous answerer seems to be making some unwarranted assumptions about your Classmates account. You did not say you were a paid member 8 years ago or that you haven't been a paid member since. You did say you did not authorize the charge.

I can't tell from your question whether your status has ever been that of a paid member or if perhaps Classmates considers you a paid member even now. This needs to be sorted out with Classmates, and the best way to do that may be by phone, at 206-301-5700. You can also write the company with the form at http://www.classmates.com/search/help/contact.

Unfortunately, Classmates is rather hard-nosed with respect to issues of this type, and there have been a raft of complaints. Classmates states:

...per the Terms of Service to which you agreed when you submitted your payment, membership fees are non-refundable.

If you can't resolve the problem with Classmates, you may want to dispute the charge with your bank.

After 8 years without being a paid member is quite a long time, especially when a charge occurs because you recently accessed the Classmates Website. However, it does seem you were likely charged for a paid membership account.

The link below shows the steps for correctly cancelling the account, and prevent any further charges made to your card. The link also offers options for contacting Customer Service to request a refund, if applicable.

Or, if preferred, you may contact Customer Service at 206-301-5700, between 9am - 5pm PST, on any weekday, excluding holidays.
