Is The Defogger Device Supposed To Sound A Bit Strained When Operating It?

Pulls energy from the engine. I notice it because the aveo gives such a smooth quiet ride. I know the air conditioning system is simultaneously activated. I just need confirmation that this is normal. It seems to be working in terms of clearing vapor from the windshield.
