Overheating. New Thermostat

my car overheats mainly when ideling. thermostat is new. when it starts to overheat if i turn heater on or accelerate it slowly cools off. it doesnt seem to be leaking any fluids. im supposed to make a 15 hour trip today wondering if its safe?
