Squealing From The Engine
will a belt tentioner cause a belt to squeal?

Yes, it is very much possible for the tensioner to cause for the serpentine belt to squeal. The serpentine belt starts to squeal whenever it does not have much traction over time. On newer cars, the tensioner adjusts itself automatically so that the serpentine belt fits tighter, can only go so far. On older cars, you have to adjust the tensioner manually. If the tensioner malfunctions, then the tension of the belt is loosened, and the squealing starts.
