I Get A Message Saying That There Is No Paper But There Is Paper. I Checked The

I checked the guides and they are positioned properly. I tried using card stock but that was not recognized either. What could be the problem and how can I fix it? A friend gave the printer to me because he only used it a few times and then he did not need it anymore

Hi. Does printer attempt to pick one up when a print job is sent? If not, then the paper sensor must then be likely stuck, broken or defect. If it does attempt to pick one up. The the pickup roller may be dusty or defect. Or there may be an obstruction in the paper passage.
