How To Open The Disc Compartment If It Will Not Manually Open.

How to open disc compartment last night opened ok. Inserted a brand new disc and today while attempting to record the disc/chg is lit and it shows a red disc wi a line through it .I tried to slide open button and dwill compartment will not open? What cam I do.
