The manual here https://www.helpowl.com/a/Cadillac/2004-CTS/Manuals/1183 has a walk through and refer to it as 'Calibrating the compass' . It all ends by driving in a tight circle for up to 5 minutes. Simply setting the correct time zone has done it for one CTS driver though.
