My Brother Xl 5430 Is Not Sewing Properly And I Think It Is Tension Related

the bobbin thread is not stitching evenly. Sometimes it makes loopy stitches, sometimes it is pulled too tight, and sometimes causes the material to bunch up. I cleaned it, changed bobbins, change the knob on top of the machine that I think is the upper thread tension knob, and changed material. Nothing we have done is fixing the problem.
