Hi. Does the thread level seem to be still sensible? If yes, then the LED may have failed, otherwise, the sensor may be defect. At any rate, there is a Service Manual here http://www.manualslib.com/manual/447370/Brother-Bas-416.html specific for the model that should be of much help.
