Bose Companion 20 Speakers Connected To My Dell Inspiron 530 Pc

I just hooked up Bose Companion 20 speakers to my Dell Inspiron 530 PC. I cannot get any sound through the speakers and PC. I plugged into every input possible on the back of the Inspiron and also th emike and headphone inputs on the front. I was previously using JBL Platinum series with no issues. I tried researching on Bose and Dell and Bose told me since they work with my ipod it is a Dell PC issue. Dell website suggested trying driver download so I downloaded suggested update for Inspiron 530 which says HD Audio Device. Once this was downloaded I now get a "No Audio Output Device is Installed" message when I put my cursor over the speaker icon in the lower right corner of my screen. The device listed previously was Real Tek Audio. Wondering how to get these Bose working.
