Why Did My Vacuum Just Die, Its Just A Bit Over 1 Yr Old ?

It seems that alot of dust and debris is getting into the parts above the dirt cannister. I empty it all the time so its not like it is ever too full. I was using the vacuum and all of a sudden it spit out dirt and just died.  Pls I cannot afford to buy a new one. Can you tell me if it is still under warranty ? Or can I fix it ?
